
Ajmer
is one of the well known pilgrimage destination of Rajasthan and
significantly it hold equal importance for Hindus as well as Muslims. Ajmer
is popular for the Dargah Sharif-tomb of the Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin
Chisti. Pushkar is a nearby city, separated from Ajmer by Nag Pahar, the
'Snake Mountain' is right on the edge of the desert. The town clings to the
small but beautiful Pushkar Lake with its many bathing ghats and temples. An
important pilgrimage center for Hindus, it is internationally famed for its

to Bombay Via Ahmedabad.
On Wheels : Ajmer is well connected by road with Agra (370 km),
Bikaner (234 km), Delhi (444 km), Jaipur (138 km), Jaisalmer (458 km),
Jodhpur (205 km) and Udaipur (269 km).

Ajmer Shrief
Situated southwest of Jaipur (134 kms) is Ajmer, the most sacred of all
Muslim places of pilgrimage in India. The revered Sufi saint, Khwaja
Muin-ud-din Chisti, who came to Ajmer from Persia in 1192, died in 1236 and
was buried here. His tomb, the Dargah is visited by thousands of devout
Muslims every year. The shrine was erected by Humayun. The Dargah also has
mosques which were built by rulers such as Shah Jahan, Jahangir and Akbar.
Akbar used to make a pilgrimage to Ajmer every year from Agra
Taragarh Fort
Erected by Ajaipal Chauhan, the founder of the city in the 7th century,
Taragarh fort is located about 3 km from the city of Ajmer. A steep climb up
rewards the weary visitor with an amazing birds eye view of Ajmer.
Brahma Temple
Nestled on the Pushkar valley, the Brahma temple is one of the most revered
pilgrimage centre for the Hindus. The Brahma temple lies beyond Nagaparvat
and the Anasagar lake. This place, full of natural beauty, holds a special
place in the hearts of Indians for it is believed that Lord Brahma, together
with all the gods and goddesses, performed a Yagya here.
Pushkar

Generally devotees take a dip in the holy' lake to purify themselves before
entering the temple.
